An Elephant's Memory Book

This is a possible children's book character I've had bouncing around in my head for a while: a sophisticated pachyderm, raised by a wealthy matron as her adopted child.

Very charming, but doesn't this remind of "Babar"?

He is very nice and reminded me also of Babar!

Thank you Pascal and Chris!

Yes, that may be the fatal problem for this character- elephants never forget, nor do children's book editors! Ha ha- but no worries, I have other ideas in my trunk!

Don't let that scare you away from this terrific character, Chris!

There are many other elephant books out there.

I think this fellow has a great future!

I'm sorry to post this here, as its not pertinent to your elephant (interesting looking character by the way) but I have a question you may be able to answer.
In the late 70s or early 80s I bought a Hagar the Horrible comic book, and it turned out to be more like a graphic novel. It was a little darker and was a long story about a voyage with not a lot of the usual jokes. I have no idea what the name was and looking through lists of Hagar books has done nothing to refresh my memory about the name. Do you know what that book was?

Thank you and again, sorry for abuse of your forum
(you can respond to browne@astrocomma.com if you would rather)

Hi Anonymous,

I e-mailed you a longer version of this reply but basically that was "Hagar and the Basilisk" a comic book that my father and Dick Hodgins put together that appeared in the US and in Europe. I remember it had an odd look and feel to it.

I'd love to do a real graphic novel of Hagar someday, maybe "Hagar the REALLY Horrible!" whatever that would be! Best, Chris

Chris,

I like the elephant, and my daughter, Erin, would love it.
BTW: I sent the picture we took at SCBWI to your mac.com address, and it bounced.
